road description

Passo di Falzarego is situated in the Dolomites and it is a part of the "Great Dolomite Alps Panoramic Road" which stretches from Bolzano to Cortina d'Ampezzo. The road climbs to an altitude of 2105m.

Coming from Andraz before Cernadoi, there is an intersection where you have to turn to the left. Basically here is the place where the pass begins. The road is among the best routes regarding the mix of curves: we have several series of hairpins then wide curves, tight curves, straight lines and all alternates in such a perfect way so you do not get bored.

The first part of the road climbs through the forest up to an altitude of about 1800m then we will go out in the alpine area and we begin to see again impressive Dolomites rocks. The last part before the top is the most spectacular part: few hairpins built on a rocky slope and one hairpin is built inside a small tunnel. Like most of the passes in the Alps, on top we find some hotels and restaurants where we can make a little stop. The descent to Cortina d'Ampezzo is quite pleasant with alternative segments through the forest with segments through meadows where you can admire the beautiful landscape. The road is full of places where you can stop and rest and by the end of this route we will finally see the Cortina d'Ampezzo ski resort and the ski slopes of the famous resort.
